Let’s not make it sound like we are launching into outer space or exploring a new continent. Storage is what we are talking about but it can still be cool brilliant storage.
Imagine your home right now. You’re probably like me and have stuff all over the place. Where did all this stuff come from? The last Christmas gifts are still in the boxes (oops), and that guitar you said you would learn to play one day (surely). Let’s not forget the closet. Mini storage units are the hero we never knew we needed.
It’s not rocket science to choose a mini-storage unit, but you have to keep a few things in mind. Don’t rent an entire cavern if you only need a small cubbyhole. Have you considered climate control? You don’t want your old photographs or comic book collection to turn into a science project due to humidity.
Another important factor is security. You want to know that your things will be there when you return for them, right? You want to find places that have good locks, and possibly some cameras. It’s like placing your treasures at Fort Knox without the gold.
Location is important. It may seem smart to save money by picking a location in the middle, but it will take you an hour each time you want your camping equipment or holiday decorations. You’re willing to pay a little more for gas and time savings. Priceless.
Get creative! Who says they have to be used for storage only? Some people have turned theirs into art studios, mini-gyms and even practice rooms for bands (though their neighbors would love it). Think outside of the box, or in this case inside, to make the most out of your space.
Be careful not to turn your unit into an unwelcome black hole. Take stock of your unit every now and again. Do I really require three fondue sets? Most likely not. By keeping things under control, you can actually use and enjoy what you have stored.
Let’s talk money. Renting these bad boys may seem like another bill, but compared to the cost of tripping on clutter or renting an extra-large apartment for closet space it’s a good deal.
Here’s one last nugget of advice: Holding onto things does not always mean that you have to keep them nearby 24/7. Giving them their own space away from home can help us to breathe easier and enjoy our own living spaces.
Now if only they could magically organize themselves… A girl can dream! If only they could organize themselves… A girl’s dream!
What is eco-friendly construction? It’s more than just good vibes, it’s intelligent living. Doesn’t that make you want to hug two trees? Eco-friendly homes don’t happen overnight, nor do they take much effort. Building a sustainable house is possible with a bit of creativity and humor. Cheers!
